Descripción del instructor

Is professor of petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. He holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in petroleum engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. After graduation and prior to joining the University of Oklahoma, Akkutlu began an academic career with the University of Alberta, Canada, teaching reservoir engineering courses. His main research interest is theoretical description of fluid flow, heat/mass transport and reactions in porous media. His work finds applications in reservoir engineering and production, particularly in the areas of unconventional gas recovery and IOR/EOR. His current academic research deals with the thermodynamics and transport of fluids in nanoporous materials, and with the scaling-up and homogenization of coupled transport (viscous and diffusive) and reaction processes in low-permeability geological formations exhibiting multi-scale pore structures. Akkutlu has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, book chapters and as part of conference proceedings. He was a registered professional engineer of Alberta, is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, SPE, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, AIChE, the Petroleum Engineering Honor Society, Pi Epsilon Tau, and the American Society for Engineering Education, ASEE. He serves to the editorial board of SPE Journal and has been a technical editor for a variety of chemical and petroleum engineering journals. Akkutlu served SPE ATCE Recovery Mechanisms and Flow in Porous Media (RMFPM) subcommittee, 2007-2010. He received SPE outstanding associate editor award in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He received 2010 SPE Mid-Continent Region (North America) Faculty Travel Award.
